- Material requirement planning (MRP) is the system used to avoid missing parts
- Material requirement planning (MRP) have two major objectives: determine requirement and keep priorities current.
KEEP PRIORITIES CURRENT
- The demand for, and supply of, component changes daily.
- Customer enter or change order.
- In this ever changing world, a material requirement plans must be able to reorganize priorities to keep plans current.
INPUTS TO THE MATERIAL REQUIREMENT PLANNING SYSTEM
- Master production schedule
- Inventory records
- Bills of material
USING THE MATERIAL REQUIREMENT PLAN
- The people who manage the material requirements planning system are planners
- They are responsible for making detailed decisions that keep the flow of material moving into, through, and out of the factory
- The basic responsibilities of a planner are to:
- Launch (release) orders to purchasing or manufacturing.
- Reschedule due dates of open (existing) orders as required.
- Reconcile errors and try to find their cause.
- Solve critical material shortages by expediting or re-planning.
- Coordinate with other planners, master production schedulers, production activity control, and purchasing to resolve problems.
